Bryant heads south for Georgia Classic

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University softball team is back in action this weekend traveling to Athens, Ga. to compete in the Georgia Classic hosted by No. 8 Georgia.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Friday will mark the first meeting in history with Belmont and Georgia.
  • Saturday will be the third time in history that Bryant has met with UMass. The Minutewomen lead the series 2-0 defeating the Bulldogs in 2017, 6-4, and in 2016, 8-1.

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • Bryant enters the weekend 0-5 after playing in the Felsberg Invitational in Miami, Fla.
  • After the Felsberg Invitational, junior Tiffany Bell (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) leads the Bulldogs and is second in the conference with a .500 batting average and a .571 OBP. Her best performance came against UConn when Bell made three appearances at the plate hitting a pair of singles.
  • Sophomore Sarah McKeveny (Bohemia, N.Y.) tallied 10 strikeouts while in Miami. McKeveny ranks first among Northeast Conference pitchers with 8.8 strikeouts per seven innings.
  • Alexandra Hickey (St. John, Ind.) has hit the lone homerun for the Bulldogs during the first outing of the season against Memphis.  

SCOUTING THE FIELD

  • Belmont is currently 4-1 this season dropping its only game to Monmouth during the EMU Madeira Beach Invitational in Madeira Beach, Fla.
  • Cheyenne Cavanaugh leads the Bruins with a .750 batting average while Alicia Veltri posts a .500 average. Veltri has produced the most runs for the Bruins with nine while also proving to be a strong defensive asset to the Bruin lineup by posting 19 strikeouts in the circle.
  • Georgia ranks eighth in the country and posts a 9-1 record entering the weekend falling to Indiana in the Florida Atlantic First Pitch Classic in Boca Raton, Fla.
  • The Georgia Bulldogs lead the country with a 10.50 scoring average and a .704 slugging percentage. Alyssa DiCarlo leads the Bulldogs with a 1.679 slugging percentage posting five doubles, one triple and eight homeruns. DiCarlo leads the country with the most homeruns hit this season.
  • The UMass Minutewomen have won one game so far this season as they are currently 1-5. UMass topped Providence College recently, 3-1, in Orlando, Fla.
  • Kaitlyn Stavinoha leads the Minutewomen in hitting with a .636 batting average and a 1.364 slugging percentage. Kiara Oliver leads UMass in the circle tallying 12 strikeouts and a 4.57 ERA.

UP NEXT
Bryant is set to travel to South Carolina on March 8 where the Bulldogs will compete in the Charleston Invitational hosted by the College of Charleston. The Bulldogs will meet with Marist, the College of Charleston, Youngstown State, NC State and Rhode Island.
