Bryant heads to Mississippi for Bulldog Slamboree

Smithfield, R.I. – The Bryant University softball team is heading down to Starkville, Miss. to compete in the Bulldog Slamboree where they will face Southeast Missouri St., Mississippi Valley, and tournament host No. 24 Mississippi St.

The format of the tournament is all teams will play each other once through Friday and Saturday. Once every team has played each other they will be placed into seeds 1-4 based on the results of those games. On Saturday the one seed will play the four seed and the two seed will play the three seed. The results of those matchups will determine who plays in the consolation and championship game on Sunday.

Series History

  • This will be the first time in program history that Bryant has faced Mississippi St., Mississippi Valley, and Southeast Missouri St.

Bulldogs Notes and Notables

  • The Black and Gold picked up their first win of the season against Mercer (7-4) behind a stellar complete-game performance from freshman pitcher Kylie Kenney (Jamison, Pa,) who struck out six in the win.
  • Gabrielle Ermish (Pottstown, Pa.) was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week for her performance in the Black and Orange Challenge. Ermish now leads the Bulldogs in batting average (.385), slugging percentage (.692), and on-base percentage. (.556).
  • First-year player Aleix Hudson (Lawrenceville, Ga.) leads the team in hits with seven and is tied with Ermish for the most RBI's this season (7).
  • Jenna Gardner (Millville, N.J.), Ermish, and Hudson all hit a home run in the Black and Orange Challenge.
  • As a team, the Bulldogs have stolen nine total bases, led by Garder who has four.

Scouting the Field

  • Southeast Missouri St. is currently 9-3 in the 2020 season. The Redhawks lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament last season.
  • Host Mississippi St. comes in with a 19-3 overall record and is currently first-place in the Southeastern Conference and is riding an eight-game winning streak. Last season the Bulldogs lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
  • Mississippi Valley has a 3-11 record in the early stages of the season. The Red Devils posted a 10-31 overall record last year.
