RECORDS FALL AS BULLDOGS SHINE AT HARVARD
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - One of the strengths of the Bryant men's and women's track & field teams in recent years has been in the sprints and relays. On Saturday, in only the second indoor meet of the season, the Bulldogs played to their strengths once again with a tremendous performance at the Harvard Open at Gordon Track.
With 955 athletes competing, senior Hafiz Greigre of Attleboro, MA had a fine afternoon, taking part in the men's 4x440 yard relay team that placed first in a time of 3 minutes, 22.78 seconds. Earlier, the speedster set a school record in the finals of the 60 meter dash in 6.81 seconds, besting his previous school mark of 6.94 seconds set last year.
The Bulldogs placed two in the finals of the 60m as Thomas O'Connor qualified with a ninth place finish in 7.26 seconds in the prelims (Greigre was second in the prelims in 6.96). O'Connor would fare well in the finals, finishing 10th in 7.16 seconds.
Greigre would later win the men's 200 meters in a time of 21.59 seconds while O'Connor was not far behind, concluding an excellent meet with a third place finish in the 200m in 22.81 seconds.
Other highlights for the men included Alex Engle's fifth place finish in the 400m in 51.47 along with Mike DiBella's 7th place in the 500m in 1:07.21. Norbert Guery took fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.25 meters.
Records were also falling on the women's side as Stephanie Montagano set a new school mark in placing second in the 400 meters. Montagano improved on her previous mark of 59.78 set last year with an impressive mark of 58.90 Saturday. Teammate Justine Douvandjian was 12th in the 400m in 61:54.
Stephanie Kirk qualified for the finals of the 60 meter hurdles and placed 8th in 9.76 seconds. Nicole Radzik and Jennifer Denise were 17th and 22nd respectively in the women's 800 meters. Radzik finished in 2:28.42 with Denise not far behind in 2:30.55.
The field events were strong as well with Samantha Genatossio placing 29th in the long jump and earning a top-10 finish in the triple jump, placing sixth by clearing 10.37 meters.
Rachel Martinich and Amber Torrey were fifth and sixth
respectively in the shot put while Torrey capped off a good day
with a third place finish in the women's weight throw (14.52
meters).
