SCHOOL RECORDS FALL AS TRACK COMPETES AT UMASS LOWELL
LOWELL, MA - It was a record-setting day for the Bryant men's and women's outdoor track and field teams as both squads took part in the George Davis Invitational hosted by UMass Lowell Saturday afternoon.
On the women's side, Stephanie Montagano captured first place in the women's 400 meters, shattering the school record with a time of 58.04 seconds and in the process qualifying for the New England Championships. Earlier in the meet, Montagano placed seventh in the women's 200 meters in 26.82 seconds.
Distance runner Nicole Radzik set a new school record with a first-place finish in the women's 5,000 meters. The senior placed first with a time of 18:04.31 good enough to also earn a qualifying standard for the New England Championships in May.
Pole vaulter Mary Sanker captured top honors by clearing eight feet, six inches while Samantha Genatossio placed seventh in the long jump (15-8.75) and second in the triple jump (33.45). Standout Rachel Martinich took third in the women's javelin with a best throw on the day of 119 feet, 11 inches.
On the men's side, Thomas O'Connor took home third place in the men's 400 meters in 49.72 seconds while Andrew Fitzgerald placed fourth in the 400m hurdles in 56.54. Teammate Zach Perron was 8th in the hurdles with a time of 58.14.
The men's 4x100 meter relay team of Fitzgerald, Alex Engel, Mike DiBella and O'Connor placed first in a time of 42.81 seconds.
Highlighting the field events was a fifth-place finish by Peter Gooding in the javelin with a mark of 160-9. Mike Hull was seventh at 149-0.
