BRYANT MEN'S INDOOR TRACK PLACES 8TH OUT OF 12 AT URI
SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. - The Bryant University men's indoor track & field team returned to action Saturday afternoon at the University of Rhode Island Sorlein Track & Field Invitational at Mackal Field House. The Bulldogs finished with 30 team points to place eighth out of 12 teams competing.
The Bulldogs got several strong performances on the afternoon highlighted by newcomers Anthony Monteiro (Leominster, MA). The freshman qualified for the finals in the men's 55 meter hurdles with a fifth-place finish in the prelims. Monteiro clocked in with a season-best time of 8.05 seconds and would place seventh in the finals (9.87). Zack Perron (Windham, NH) was 18th in the 55 hurdles in 8.59.
Tom O'Connor (Westwood, MA) took home a top-10 finish in the men's 200 meter dash. The sophomore placed ninth overall in 22.92 seconds. In the middle distance events, the Bulldogs excelled. Junior Alex Engel (Spencer, MA) placed third overall in 1:06.01 while freshman John Mitton (North Reading, MA) took third in the 800 meters in 1:59.38. Peter Jacques scored three points for the Bulldogs with a sixth-place finish in the men's 1,000 meters, crossing the line in 2:33.59.
In the relays, the men's 4x400 consisting of Mike DiBella (Upper Saddle River, NJ), Engel, O'Connor and Monteiro took second in 3:25.10.
In the field events, freshman Chris Brida (Southampton, MA) placed 12th in the long jump, clearing 19 feet, 6.25 inches and later picked up four team points by placing fifth in the triple jump with a best mark of 43-9.75.
The Bulldogs will return to action Sunday at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational at Harvard University.
