Bulldogs find success at NEICAAA Championship

BOSTON, Mass. – The Bryant University indoor track and field team competed against 21 men's and 23 women's teams across New England this weekend at the NEICAAA Championship in Boston. As a team, the men compiled two points while the women racked up eight.  

COACH SWITZER COMMENTS

"I'm happy with how the team competed this weekend. We had two All-New England performances – Nikki [Nicole Xiarhos (Berlin, Conn.)] as a runner-up in the 200 and also the men's 4x4 placing seventh. Sarah Freeman (Merrimac, Mass.) and Jason Dolan (Westford, Mass.) stood out with great relay legs on both days. I'm happy with how the team has come along so far this season and I'm looking forward to having everyone back together next week.

MEN TOP PERFORMERS

  • In the 500m, sophomore Andrew Canale (Lincroft, N.J.) finished with a time of 1:05.63 and now ranks third all-time at Bryant for his efforts.
  • Christopher Wrenn (Norton, Mass.) just missed his season-best mark that he set at the BU last weekend in the 800m. Wrenn crossed the finish line with a time of 1:57.99.
  • Freshmen Nicholas Brancato (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Jonathan Iamarone (Providence, R.I.) competed in the 5000m. Brancato led the way finishing 24th out of 31 runners with a time of 15:35.12 while Iamarone finished 30th posting a time of 15:55.07.
  • The 4x400 team of Adam Winiarz (Norton, Mass.), Jacob Goodman (Longmeadow, Mass.), Joshua Pestana (Plymouth, Mass.), and Canale finished among the top-10 out of 15 relay teams. The 4x4 squad finished seventh overall with a time of 3:22.98.
  • The 4x800 relay team also had success at the New England Championships as Jordan Dagrin (North Kingstown, R.I.), William Bittrich (Duxbury, Mass.), Dolan, and Wrenn came within one second of breaking Bryant's school record. The team finished ninth out of 18 teams with a time of 7:51.23 which qualifies them for IC4A and ranks them second all-time at Bryant.
  • For field events, Chris Fasano (Lake Grove, N.Y.) finished 13th out of 23 throwers in shot put trailed by Brett Cloutier (North Attleboro, Mass.) in 18th. Fasano threw 14.25m and Cloutier 13.87m.

WOMEN TOP PERFORMERS

  • Xiarhos came within one second of becoming a New England champion in the 200m as she finished second overall with a time of 25.16. Xiarhos time was also within a second of Bryant's school record which the sophomore set earlier this season at BU.
  • In Garrity's NEICAAA Championship debut, the rookie crossed the finish line in the 500m with a time of 1:17.90.
  • Freeman set a new personal-best in the 800m with a time of 2:19.80 which ranks her seventh in Bryant's top-10 record book.
  • The 4x400 team of Grace Yost (Wanaque, N.J.), Emily Cluck (Johnson City, N.Y.), Garrity, and Xiarhos broke into Bryant's top-10 record book ranking third all-time finishing in the top-10 at New Englands. The team came in at ninth overall out of 21 teams with a time of 3:58.51.
  • Jacqueline Prestininzi (Shrewsbury, N.J.), Breann Campise (Tolland, Conn.), Jacklyn Sullivan (Plymouth, Mass.), and Freeman made up the 4x800 team that now ranks fourth all-time at Bryant with a time of 9:55.11.
