Men finish fifth and women sixth at NECs

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's outdoor track & field team finished fifth while the women's finished sixth at the 2021 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship. The Bulldogs took home eight medals across and broke two school records in the second day of the championship meet.

COACH SWITZER COMMENTS

"There's nothing I can say that will do justice to how great the team did this weekend. Across the board we had outstanding performances and a lot of history was made for the program. It was cool to see the energy, intensity and support the team had from start to finish. It was truly a team effort this weekend. I'm really proud of how they all competed and all that the team accomplished. Go Dawgs!"

MEN TOP PERFORMERS

  • Jason Dolan kicked off the day with the men's first gold medal of the weekend. Dolan finished first overall in the 1500m with a time of 3:52.66. The gold medal brought 10 points to the men's team.
  • The Bulldogs scored a combined 12 points in the 400m led by Will Remkiewicz who took home a gold medal. The rookie posted a time of 47.35 followed by Ethan Ferraiola who finished seventh overall with a time of 49.52.
  • Remkiewicz also scored in the 200m as he finished sixth overall. The rookie posted a time of 22.23 and scored three points.
  • The men's 4x100 relay team of Ferraiola, Jacob Goodman, Edward Cardarelli, and Aidan Smith scored five points as the team finished fourth overall. The relay team posted a time of 42.45.
  • Junior Kevin Aroke finished seventh in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.58 which was good for two points.
  • Aidan Hickey and Jordan Dagrin combined for four points in the 800m. Hickey finished sixth with a time of 1:57.06 while Dagrin finished eighth with a time of 2:01.32.
  • Freshman Mason Jones finished just outside the top three in pole vault with a fourth-place finish. Jones cleared a height of 4.40m for a total of five points.
  • Two Bulldogs medaled in javelin for a total of 14 points. Senior Nick Alessandro earned silver with a 63.00m mark followed by freshman Emmett Ruote who earned bronze with a 60.28m mark.
  • Junior William Bittrich earned three points finishing sixth overall. Bittrich posted a time of 15:26.65.
  • The men's 4x400 relay team of Ethan Ferraiola, Andrew Canale, Dolan, and Remkiewicz ended the day on an extremely high note. The relay team not only earned a gold medal but broke Bryant's school record with a time of 3:13.01.

WOMEN TOP PERFORMERS

  • The 4x100 relay team of Nicole Xiarhos, Jasmine Hope, Christina Capozzi, and Ana Bertarelli earned a bronze medal and snapped Bryant's school record with a time of 48.13.
  • Junior Sarah Freeman earned a silver medal in the 1500m with a time of 4:38.88.
  • Sophomore Lily LaGoy scored three points in discus as she finished sixth with a 36.95m mark.
  • Sophomore Grace Yost scored one point for Bryant in the 100m hurdles. Yost finished eighth with a time of 15.90.
  • Sophomore Emma Garrity PR'd in the 400m and accumulated three points thanks to a sixth-place finish and a time of 58.09.
  • In the 100m, Hope and Xiarhos combined for five points and they finished 6-7. Hope posted a time of 12.35 followed by Xiarhos with a time of 12.40.
  • Junior Julia Ayres earned a bronze medal in the 5,000m with a personal-best time of 17:45.46.
  • The 4x400 relay team of Garrity, Lauren Cawley, Capozzi, and Xiarhos finished fifth overall with a time of 3:58.94 for a total of four points.
