Scanlan takes home NEC Rookie of the Week laurels

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- After a two-win weekend in which she averaged 12.5 points and 8 rebounds, freshman Hannah Scanlan (Rumson, N.J.) was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.

Scanlan also averaged 3 steals, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks over Bryant's two wins. The New Jersey native helped the Bulldogs earn road victories at Fairleigh Dickinson and Sacred Heart.

Against the Pioneers, Scanlan posted her first career double-double, scoring 14 points and pulling down 12 rebounds, a career best. She also blocked two shots and came away with three steals at SHU.

At Fairleigh Dickinson, Scanlan scored nine points and pulled down four rebounds. She also had three thefts and blocked a shot.

The freshman is averaging 7.7 points and 5.9 rebounds per game on the season. She has started in each of the Bulldogs' last 13 games.

Scanlan is the first Bryant player since Sydney Holloway (Morgantown, W. Va.) to win NEC Rookie of the Week honors. Holloway won on three occasions last season.
