Bryant hosts Brown in home opener

SMITHFIELD, R.I – After topping UMass Lowell in a thrilling season opener, the Bryant University women's basketball team hosts in-state foe Brown at the Chace Athletic Center for the first home opener of the 2018-19 season. The game is set for 7 p.m.

SCOUTING THE BROWN BEARS:
Last season, Brown finished 15-12 overall posting a 3-11 conference record which did not qualify them for post season play. Brown topped Central Connecticut 68-63 in its season opener. Justine Gaziano is the current leading scorer for the Bears as she posted 27 points against Central Connecticut. The Bears are led by Sarah Behn in her fifth season as head coach.

SERIES HISTORY vs. BROWN
Thursday's meeting marks the 12th meeting in history with the Bears leading the series 7-4. Last season the two teams met twice with Brown taking both games.

MEET THE NEWCOMERS
The Bryant University women's basketball team welcomes four new faces who will all contribute at the guard position. Madison Trpcic (Hamilton, Ont.) and Trinity Bravo (Bridgeport, Conn.) enter as true freshman, while Meagan Bianchi (Brooklyn, Conn.) and Taty LaFrance Boyce (Norwich, Conn.) have two years of playing experience under their belt as they transfer into Bryant from junior college, UConn Avery Point.

SEEING DOUBLE
Junior wing Sydney Holloway (Morgantown, W. Va.) recroded her first double-double in the Bulldogs season opener at UMass Lowell with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Last season, she was named First Team All-NEC after averaging 17.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 0.6 assists per game. Holloway was the only conference player to average a double-double which ranked her 19th nationally for her double-double performances.

DROPPING DIMES
Kierra Palmer (Aberdeen, Md.) led the Bulldogs in their season opener at UMass Lowell with nine assists. Palmer led the NEC in assists last season for the second year in a row, totaling 132 on the season (5.3/game).

NO, NO, NO
Sophomore Hannah Scanlan (Rumson, N.J.) led the Bulldogs in blocked shots against UMass Lowell with two. Trinity Bravo also tallied a block in her collegiate debut. Scanlan led the Bulldogs last season with 27 blocks in her rookie debut. In her first game at the collegiate leve, Scanlan recorded a career-high of three.

BOARDING SCHOOL
Bryant led the Northeast Conference in rebound margin and was second in rebounds last season, out-rebounding its opponents by 2.7 rebounds a game. The Bulldogs held opponents to 1,127 rebounds over the course of the season and outrebounded opponents in 20 of the 29 games.

FREE-BEES
Last season the Bulldogs led the NEC in free throw attempts taking 627 for the year. Holloway attempted 40% of the teams free throws ranking top 10 in the country for free throw attempts taking 248
