Zegarowski leads Bulldogs in double-digit loss to BC

CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. – The Bryant University women's basketball team fell to Boston College, 83-46, on Thursday night.

Masey Zegarowski (Hamilton, Mass.) led Bryant with a season-high 14 points shooting 50% from behind the arc.

COACH BURKE COMMENTS

"In the first quarter we only had five points, and teams get bounce from getting easy baskets. We got to the rim a few times but just overshot it. There were definitely a few quarters where we brought good energy and we tried to compete. Boston College is very good, athletic, and good at getting into passing lanes, which I thought we managed a little bit but just turned the ball over too much. One of our philosophies of the game was to not give them multiple chances on offensive rebounds, and we did that. We can't turn the ball over and give up multiple opportunities to score."

KEY MOMENT

• The Bulldogs had trouble starting their offense in the beginning of the game giving Boston College two steals within 30 seconds. The two fast breaks kick started the Eagles scoring as they went on a 13-2 run.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Boston College comes out hot grabbing two back-to-back steals to start its 13-2 run. Nine of the Eagles first 13 points came strictly from fast breaks.
• Bryant shot a season low 12.5% from the field scoring just five points in the first quarter led by Zegarowski with three.
• To start the second quarter, Boston College went on a 7-0 run capped by a three from Taylor Ortlepp.
• Bryant compiled two steals in the second half from Naomi Ashley (Hamilton, Ont.).
• Despite grabbing three steals to start the half, Bryant was unable to convert its steals into points.
• Boston College shot a game-high of five three-pointers in the third quarter giving them a shooting percentage of 50% from behind the arc.
• Coming out of a timeout with over four to go in the game, Boston College's Milan Bolden-Morris scored the next 12 points for the Eagles shooting four back-to-back three pointers in a span of one minute and 20. Bolden-Morris's fourth three-pointer gave the Eagles their biggest lead of 41 points with two minutes to go in the game.

• Zegarowski led with 14 points shooting 3-of-6 for three. She also led with three assists and compiled one steal and two rebounds. 
• Sydney Holloway (Morgantown, W. Va.) led with 8 rebounds.
• Ashley compiled four steals for the Bulldogs.
• Sophomore Julia Kelner (Fayetteville, N.Y.) was 3-of-4 from the field scoring six points. 
• Three Bulldogs contributed four points including Hannah Scanlan (Rumson, N.J.), Kandis Taylor (Sunrise, Fla.), and Ashley. 
• Bryant shot 50% from the free throw line shooting 5-of-10. 
• Boston College outshot Bryant as the Eagles shot 32-of-73 from the field with a percentage of 43.4%. Bryant was 34.5% from the field shooting 19-of-55.
• The Eagles outrebounded Bryant 47-37 on the boards.
• Boston College converted 25 points from Bryant's 27 turnovers.
• Bryant's bench tallied 30 points accounting for more than half of the Bulldog's scoring.

GAME NOTES

• Zegarowski's 14 points was a season-high. The junior guard was the only player for the Black and Gold to hit a shot from behind the arc with three.
• The Bulldogs scored just five points in the first quarter making it the lowest amount of points scored in a single quarter since last season when Bryant put up just seven points in the second and fourth quarters against James Madison.
• Bryant is on a seven game losing streak making it the longest losing streak sing the Bulldogs lost eight straight in the 2012-13 season.
• Tonight marks the first game of the season that the Bulldogs were outrebounded.
