Burke finalizes class of 2023

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Head coach Mary Burke finalized the class of 2023 for the Bryant University women's basketball program by adding two more student-athletes to the incoming class. 

Blanca Chasco | Barcelona, Spain | Sant Ignasi Sarrià

Before Bryant
Three-year varsity letter winner in basketball and one-year letter winner in netball … Was the top scorer, rebounder, and shot blocker in the Copa Colegial Tournament in 2019 … Named MVP of her team in Mataró in 2018 … Received the Sport Merit in her high school and was named MVP of her high school squad as a sophomore .. Helped her high school team become runner-ups with a 20-8 overall record … Intended to major in Business Administration.

Coach Burke Comments on Blanca
"Blanca is a 6-2 athletic forward with GREAT versatilities in all aspects of her game and a prototypical Bryant forward skill set. She has the abilities to make an impact on the program right away."

 

Abbie Eads | Petersburg, Va. | TPLS Christian Academy

A four-year varsity letter winner in basketball … Helped lead her high school squad to a Homeschool League Championship in 2017 … Member of Team Loaded … Intended to major in Business Management.

Coach Burke Comments on Abbie
"Abbie is a 6-3 post who will add depth and physicality in the paint. She has a strong offensive skill set that is important in the criteria for success in our system."

Chasco and Eads are accompanied by early signees Nicole Gallagher, Alana Perkins, and Shannon O'Connor.

A four-year varsity letter winner … Helped her team become AA NEPSAC Runner Ups and win the ISL Championship last season … Named to the USJN 17U National Championship All-Star Team in 2017 … Helped her team win the Massachusetts State Championship in 2016 … Played AAU with the Bay State Jaguars … Intended major is undecided.  

Coach Burke Comments on Nicole
"Nicole is a tough, gritty point guard who has the ability to shoot the long ball and run an expedient offense. What also makes her suitable for this system is her love of high-level intensity and she displays that with how she plays – a true competitor."

 

Alana Perkins | Wauwatosa, Wis. | Wilbraham & Monson Academy

Before Bryant
A four-year varsity letter winner … Helped her high school team win the conference championship as a freshman and sophomore and helped them win the Division II State Championship as a freshman … Named Second Team All-Conference and named to the NEPSAC All-Star Team as a junior … Ranked among the Top 32 in the Massachusetts Class of 2019 … Played AAU for the Boston Showstoppers … Intends to major in Biology – Pre Health.

Coach Burke Comments on Alana
"Alana has great three-point range well beyond the three-point line. Her strength to pull the defense out of the lane will give us a balanced approach on the offensive side of the floor."

 

Shannon O'Connor | Wrentham, Mass. | King Phillip Regional

Before Bryant
A four-year varsity letter winner … Helped lead her team to the second round of conference playoffs … Earned Rookie of the Year honors during freshman season … Named Team MVP and Hockomock League All-Star three years in a row and Sun Chronicle All-Star during her junior and senior seasons … Named Riley Winter Classic All-Star senior year … Played AAU with the Mass Mavericks … Intends to major in Politics and Law.

Coach Burke Comments on Shannon
"Shannon will fill that big guard roll at 5-10. She has the ability to get to the basket and shoot the three which are versatilities that will make for a nice addition to our depth at the guard position."
