Bjelko scores career-high 32 pts in win vs. FDU

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Brooke Bjelko of the Bryant University women's basketball team scored a career-high 32 points in the 69-57 Northeast Conference victory over Fairleigh Dickinson at the Chace Athletic Center.

Fatou Jallow scored 16 points and shot 4-5 from three. This is the fourth consecutive game that Jallow has reached double figures. She also has knocked down at least two three-pointers in the past three games. Bjelko led the Bulldogs in every quarter and overall for the game.

  • The Bulldogs outscored FDU 21-7 in the second quarter to gain a double-digit lead.

 How it Happened

  • FDU started out on top in the first five minutes of the first quarter, outscoring the Black and Gold 11-5. The Bulldogs then responded with a 12-4 run of their own capitalized by eight points from Bjelko in the final half of the quarter (17-15). Jallow posted five Megan Bodziony, and Shannon O'Connor had two.
  • Bryant dominated the second quarter, recording 21 points of their own, and holding the Knights to seven (38-22). Bjelko scored eight for the second consecutive quarter. Jallow posted six and Dana Kiefer hit a deep triple for her first basket as a Bulldog. Mariona Planes Fortuny and Boziony tallied two.
  • Both teams recorded nine points before the third quarter media timeout. This resulted in a 47-33 lead for the Black and gold with 4:45 left. The Knights gained an edge for the rest of the quarter outscoring Bryant 10-5. The Black and Gold still maintained a lead of 52-43 going into the fourth. Bjelko scored four, O'Connor had three, and Jallow posted three.
