Dawgs return home to face Merrimack

SMITHFIELD, R.I - The Bryant University women's basketball team returns home to Smithfield to face Merrimack for a Friday evening tip-off at the Chace Athletic Center.

THE SERIES
The Bulldogs are 30-20 all-time against the Warriors and are 1-2 since Merrimack became a DI program. In their last matchup, the Black and Gold defeated Merrimack 83-80 in overtime at the Chace Athletic Center. Brooke Bjelko and Fatou Jallow each had 19 points, along with Stephanie Mayerhofer (18) and Shannon O'Connor (12), who also reached double figures.

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
Merrimack comes into Friday's matchup with a 4-10 overall record and a conference record of 2-4. Both of the Warrior's NEC wins were due to forfeits. In their most recent game, MC fell to Mount St. Mary's by a score of 78-70. Kate Mager led the way with 22 points in the loss. Mager is top of the team in ppg with 12.5, which ranks 7th in the NEC.

WHAT TO KNOW

  • Bjelko scored her 1,00th career point against SFU on Monday. Bjelko becomes the 6th player in DI program history to achieve this feat. Bjelko is averaging a fourth-best 13.5 ppg in the NEC.
  • Jallow has been on fire from three, as she is shooting 60% from three since NEC play has started. Jallow is 6-of-9 from deep in her last two games. Overall, Jallow is shooting a career-high 47% from beyond the arc.
  • Nicole Gallagher produced her fifth double-figure scoring game of the season against Saint Francis U. She shot 50% from the field (6-12) for the second time this year.
  • Bryant is leading the NEC in total assists with 240 and ranks third in assists per game (14.1.). Both of those marks rank top-100 nationally.
  • The Bulldogs shot a season-high 64% (9-14) from three-point range against the Red Flash. The Black and Gold are now shooting 33.9% as a team, which ranks 71st nationally.
