Mount St. Mary's downs Bryant on Senior Day

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – A six-goal run from Mount St. Mary's turned the tide in the first half and the Mountaineers led the rest of the way to spoil Senior Day for the Bryant University women's lacrosse team in a 19-8 contest Saturday at a rainy Beirne Stadium.

KEY MOMENT

  • Bryant led 3-0 before six straight goals from Mount St. Mary's, coupled with holding the Bulldogs off the board for nearly 15 minutes, gave the Mountaineers a lead they would not surrender the rest of the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bryant scored 38 seconds into the contest on a goal from freshman Alexa Weber (South Windsor, Conn.). Senior Lauren Britton (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) and sophomore Caitlin Bolen (Queensbury, N.Y.) would follow to put Bryant ahead 3-0 seven minutes into the game, prompting a Mount St. Mary's timeout.
  • The Mountaineers would answer with the next six goals to go up 6-3 with 10:26 to play in the half.
  • A Caitlin Bolen goal would get Bryant within 6-4 before the Mountaineers scored the final two goals of the first half for an 8-4 lead at the break.
  • Britton and senior Jess DeMeo (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) scored 17 seconds apart to cut the Mount lead to 8-6 with 28:18 to play.
  • The Mountaineers responded with the next three before a goal from junior Caitlin Breglia (Long Beach, N.Y.) brought it to 11-7 with 20:41 to go.
  • Mount would score two and senior Jasmine Perkins (West Babylon, N.Y.) would find the back of the net with 15:22 to play, bringing Bryant within 13-8, before the Mountaineers scored the final six goals of the contest.

  • Caitlin Bolen recorded two goals and an assist.
  • Britton notched two goals, two ground balls and five draw controls, becoming the first player in program history with 100 draws in a single season.
  • Perkins and sophomore Megan McCarthy (Northampton, Mass.) collected two caused turnovers each.
  • Senior Meredith James (Essex Fells, N.J.) recorded six draw controls.
  • Mount St. Mary's outshot Bryant, 42-20.
  • Bryant was 15-for-16 (.938) in clears.
