Bryant meets with Manhattan for first road contest

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Bryant University women's lacrosse team looks to build to a two-game winning streak as they hit the road for the first time this season on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Manhattan. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Gaelick Park in Riverdale, N.Y.

THE SERIES
The Bulldogs hold a 2-0 all-time advantage over the Jaspers since the last meeting in 2015. Bryant first topped Manhattan in 2014, 8-7, before taking the second meeting in the very next year with a convincing 17-2 victory.  

SCOUTING THE JASPERS
Manhattan enters Saturday's game on a two-game losing streak, falling to LIU and Drexel on the road. The Jaspers opened the season at home with a 12-11 overtime thriller over LaSalle on their home turf as they post a 1-2 overall record.

Senior Emily Englert leads the Jaspers with five goals, two assists, and seven points as she opened her senior season with a hat trick against LaSalle. On the defensive end, senior Susan Morad leads the squad with eight ground balls so far on the year. Senior Hailey Siemek trails with six ground balls but leads the Jaspers with six caused turnovers across three games.

Freshman Ashley Gambardella is Manhattan's primary goalkeeper but split time with senior Catie Pluta most recently against Drexel. The rookie has 14 saves on the year and accumulated a .333 save percentage with 28 goals against. Against Drexel, Pluta stopped six but let six slip past.

Manhattan is led by first-year head coach Jenna Dingler after spending the last two seasons as the head coach of Division II Caldwell.

SCOUTING THE BLACK AND GOLD

  • Sophomore Alexa Weber (South Windsor, Conn.) posted her second multi-goal game of the season against Vermont on Wednesday. Weber netted three against UVM as well as opening the season with three against Quinnipiac. The sophomore leads the team with seven so far this year.
  • Sophomore transfer Cassidy Burns (Massapequa, N.Y.) continues to lead the Bulldogs in points as she racked up nine with four goals and five assists across the first three games. Burns transferred to Bryant from Manhattan after being named the MAAC Rookie of the Year for the Jaspers just one year ago.
  • Junior Megan McCarthy (Northampton, Mass.) is the team leader in draw controls after grabbing eight most recently against UVM. McCarthy has 19 so far this year. Junior Devon Bolen (Queensbury, N.Y.) trails just behind McCarthy with 13.
  • Giana Kapoosuzian (Merrick, N.Y.) ranks fifth in the conference with 23 saves on the season. The junior stopped a season-high of 11 to open the season before posting six in each game after. Kapoosuzian posts a 41.8 save percentage through the 2020 schedule.
