Bryant dominates Manhattan, 12-2

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Bryant University women's lacrosse team held Manhattan to just two goals in a dominating 12-2 victory on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs picked up their first road win of the season as they grow to a two-game win streak.

COACH ROCHE'S COMMENTS

"I have to hand it to our defense for a standout performance today. We held their offense scoreless in the first half and caused a number of turnovers in pivotal moments. Jamie Fischer, in particular, was a force out there with five caused turnovers. This week is an opportunity to focus on not only our individual development but also our execution of our offensive and defensive systems."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead after a dominating first half. Junior Devon Bolen (Queensbury, N.Y.) started the scoring in the first two minutes of the game off an assist from Maggie Pressler (Smithfield, R.I.). Skylar Simmonds (Jupiter, Fla.), Abbi England (Longford Mills, Ontario), Caitlin Breglia (Long Beach, N.Y.), and Alexa Weber (South Windsor, Conn.) all followed with first-half tallies.
  • Manhattan opened the second half by getting on the board with a free position goal.
  • Natalie Langella (Northport, N.Y.) responded to the Jasper goal by sparking a 6-0 scoring run. The run was led by Breglia and Weber with two goals apiece.
  • The Jaspers went on to get one more with 1:47 remaining in the game.
  • Junior Caitlin Bolen (Queensbury, N.Y.) found the back of the net in the final minute of play off a pass from Simmonds to put the nail in the coffin, 12-2.

STATS

  • Breglia and Weber each led with three goals. Breglia also posted two assists while Weber posted one.
  • Caitlin Bolen posted two goals while Simmonds, Langella, England, and Devon Bolen each netted one.
  • Pressler matched Breglia with two assists.
  • Senior Katie Clark (New Fairfield, Conn.) led with five ground balls.
  • Junior Jamie Fischer (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) posted five caused turnovers.
  • Both Megan McCarthy (Northampton, Mass.) and Weber tallied three draw controls each.
  • Giana Kapoosuzian (Merrick, N.Y.) faced eight shots and stopped six while in between the posts.
  • The Bulldogs outshot the Jaspers, 31-13.

GAME NOTES

  • Bryant remains undefeated against Manhattan growing to 3-0 all-time.
  • As a team, the Bulldogs posted a season-best 28 ground balls.
  • Fischer's five caused turnovers mark a career-high.
  • Clark tied her career-best with five ground balls. The last time Clark tallied five ground balls was at Canisius in 2018.
