Bulldogs fall at Mount St. Mary's

EMMITSBURG, MD. – Senior Caitlin Bolen poured in five goals while junior Cassidy Burns dished out a career-high five assists, but it wasn't enough as the Bryant University women's lacrosse team fell, 17-11, at Mount St. Mary's.

"Mount is a good team that is well-coached. We needed to slow down their offense and capitalize on our shots. The first half was competitive but we let the second half get away from us. We are focused on getting ready for our next opponent."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams went back-and-forth to start the game until the 17-minute mark when the Mount took off on a 3-0 run to extend to a four-goal lead, 6-2.
  • Bryant responded when Alexa Weber buried a free position opportunity to spark back-to-back goals for the Bulldogs.
  • The two teams nearly traded goals before the end of the half as Bryant trailed by one, 9-8.
  • Mount's defense held Bryant to just three second-half goals, outscoring the Bulldogs, 8-3, to win the game, 17-11.

STATS/GAME NOTES

  • Caitlin Bolen poured in five goals off 10 shots. Bolen put seven of her 10 shots on goal.
  • Cassidy Burns dished out a career-high five assists.
  • Devon Bolen, Alexa Weber, and Skylar Simmonds each netted two goals apiece. Bolen and Simmonds each put six shots on frame and posted four draw controls, marking a career-high for Simmonds.  
  • Simmonds led with career-best five groundballs.
  • Gabriella Henry led the defensive unit with two caused turnovers.
  • Sam Ciancio and Giana Kapoosuzian split time in goal and combined for three saves.
  • Despite the outcome, Bryant outshot the Mountaineers, 38-33.
