Bulldogs Win Fifth Straight on Record Setting Day in D.C.

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant women's lacrosse team tied the single game program record with 22 goals as they defeated Howard on Saturday for their fifth straight win. Skylar Simmonds led the scoring attack with six goals, while Cassidy Burns added three goals and four assists. Emily Diaz dominated the draws, setting a new D-I program record with 16 draw controls.

How it Happened

Q1: Simmonds and Burns got the scoring started for the Bulldogs, each netting a goal in the first five minutes of play. Howard scored back-to-back goals before Simmonds, Alexa Weber, and Lily Auger combined on a 4-0 run to close out the period for Bryant.

Q2: The Bulldogs extended their run to 8-0, scoring the first four goals of the second. Simmonds, Burns, Auger, and Kenna Kaut all scored in the first six minutes of the period. Bryant went on another run, scoring five times over the final eight minutes of the period to extend the halftime lead to twelve.

Q3: Skylar Simmonds scored her sixth goal less than 90 seconds into the third quarter. She was followed by five more Bulldog goals in the period, including Brooke Blanche's first of the season. The Bryant defense allowed only a single goal for the second straight period, limiting the Bison to just three shots.

Q4: Claudia Bonaventura netted her first career goal less than 30 seconds into the final quarter, and Peyton Woodward added another to put the Bulldogs at 22 goals for the game. Carsin Gronbach picked up a ground ball and caused a Howard turnover, her first of the season.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant's 22 goals tied the program's D-I single game record, last accomplished in 2021. It is the tenth time in program history and second this season that they've scored at least 20 goals in a game.

  • Skylar Simmonds tied a season high with seven total points. Her six goals were her second most in a game this season after netting seven at Columbia in February. She's now one goal shy of joining Kenna Kaut as 30 goal scorers on the season.

  • Cassidy Burns tied Simmonds for the team lead and set a new Bryant career high with seven points (3 G, 4 A). Her hat trick was also her first in a Bryant uniform.

  • Emily Diaz set a new Bryant record with 16 draw controls in the game. Her total is also the tenth most in a game across the country this season.

  • Led by Diaz, the Bulldogs also set a team single game record with 29 draw controls. That number is second most in the nation this year.

  • Bryant finished the game with 36 total points (22 G, 14 A), their most in a game this season, second most in D-I program history, and the sixth most in the nation.
