Bulldogs Cruise Past CCSU, Clinch Share of Regular Season Title

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant women's lacrosse team clinched a share of the Northeast Conference regular season championship with a 21-7 win over Central Connecticut Wednesday afternoon. Alexa Weber scored five goals on five shots on goal, while Cassidy Burns scored twice and dished five assists.

How it Happened

Q1: Bryant scored each of the first three goals, two coming from Weber and one from Kenna Kaut. The Blue Devils sprinkled in a pair of goals before another 3-0 run helped catapult them to a five goal lead at the horn. Weber recorded a hat trick in the first period, while Kaut and Lily Auger added a pair each for the Bulldogs.

Q2: Jessica Colalillo netted her second goal of the season to kick off the scoring for Bryant in the second, extending the lead to six. Alexa Weber added her fourth goal later in the quarter off an assist from Cassidy Burns, the 85th of her career, tying the Bryant all-time record. The Bulldog defense was stout in the second, allowing just one goal and forcing seven turnovers.

Q3: Burns, Kaut, and Weber each scored to open the third, giving Bryant a 3-0 run out of the halftime break. Colalillo added her second goal of the game later in the period, giving her her first career multi-goal game. The Bulldogs continued their defensive dominance, allowing one goal on only two shots in the quarter.

Q4: CCSU scored to open the fourth quarter, but a 4-0 run by the Bulldogs to close gave them their fourth 20-goal game of the season. Alleigh Kempf scored Bryant's 20th goal, her first of the season. Hanna Kumpf, Peyton Woodward, and Brooke Blanche also added goals for Bryant in the period.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Cassidy Burns recorded a team high seven points in the game on two goals and five assists. She now has 85 career assists, tying the Bryant all-time record. 

  • Alexa Weber tied her season high with five goals, scoring three in the first quarter alone. She's now scored at least four in three of the last four games and has 34 on the season.

  • Kenna Kaut scored three times for her 11th hat trick this season. She's scored multiple goals in every game and has an NEC-leading 49 on the season.

  • The Bulldogs defense limited CCSU to only 18 shots and forced 20 Blue Devil turnovers. The seven goals allowed were their second fewest in a game this season.

  • Bryant's share of the NEC regular season title is the sixth in program history and clinches the #1 seed in the conference tournament.
