The No. 8 Bryant University women's soccer team was rewarded for a successful 2007 season with five All-Conference selections and two individual Northeast-10 Conference accolades, as announced by the league after Sunday's championship game.
Junior defender Danielle Malta (Bethel, Conn.) was named the 2007 Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year after anchoring a defense that surrendered just 18 goals and recorded 13 shutouts in 23 games this season. One of two All-Conference First Teamers for Bryant, Malta started every game for the Bulldogs, who sit at No. 2 in the latest New England Regional Poll and No. 8 nationally.
Eighth-year head coach Chris Flint was named 2007 Northeast-10 Coach of the Year, as voted on by all conference coaches, after leading the Bulldogs to a school-record 17 wins and a trip to the Northeast-10 Championship game. After going 17-1-5 in the 2007 campaign, Flint sports a 96-54-15 overall record at Bryant.
Joining Malta on the NE-10 First Team is senior tri-captain Tricia Spada (Dedham, Mass.). The midfielder leads the team with nine goals and five assists in 20 starts on the season and ranks in the conference top-10 in nearly every offensive statistic: shots (54; 8), shots per game (2.57; 9), points (23; 7), goals (9; T-8), goals per game (.43; 10), assists (5; T-10) and game-winning goals (4; T-1). A two-time Northeast-10 Player of the Week, Spada led the Bulldogs to the conference championship where she scored Bryant's only goal in a 2-1 loss.
Junior midfielder Amy Orzechowski (Milford, Conn.) earned an All-Conference Second Team nomination for the Bulldogs after recording five goals and four assists in 23 starts this year. Orzechowski recorded a team-best 57 shots, with 28 of them on goal (No. 2 on the team) and will continue to be a playmaker in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
Sophomores Holly Tyser (Somers, Conn.) and Alex DiPippo (Shelton, Conn.) were named All-Conference Third Team selections Sunday for their contributions to Bryant's success in 2007. Tyser, an offensive-minded midfielder with 23 starts on the year, ranks second on the team with six goals and five helpers. DiPippo has started 17-of-23 games this season and registered seven goals and one assist in 23 appearances.
