BRYANT WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO GEORGETOWN 6-0 IN SEASON OPENER FRIDAY IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Bryant University women's soccer team opened its 2009 season with a 6-0 loss to Georgetown University Friday afternoon in first day action of the American University tournament.

The Bulldogs (0-1) fell behind right from the start as Georgetown's Caitlin Durkee scored off a deflection in front of the goal just 36 seconds into the contest. Sara Jordan put the Hoyas up 2-0 just under a minute later after a hard charge up the left side and beating Bryant goalie Katie Mitchell (Deer Park, N.Y.) to her left.

Georgetown (2-0), which opened the season last week with a 2-0 win over American University, extended its lead with a goal by Samantha Baker in the 39th minute.  Baker took a long feed from Durkee and was able to get a shot past Mitchell to make it 3-0 heading into the half.

Camille Trujillo would net a pair of goals over a three minute span at the beginning of the second half to put the game away for the Hoyas.  Georgetown out-shot Bryant 26 to 5 in the game as Mitchell made 12 saves in net for the Bulldogs.

Bryant will face American University Sunday at 2:30 pm.  The game will be streamed live online at www.aueagles.tv.
