Bergh's header extends Bulldog unbeaten streak to four in win over St. Bonaventure

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's soccer team generated one of its biggest offensive games of the season, and sophomore Claire Bergh (Calgary, Alberta) made sure it would not go for naught as her header in the 77th minute gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 win over St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon at the Bulldog Soccer Field.

Coach Bigg's Comments

"It seemed like we were knocking on the door for a long time. Credit to the team for staying positive and continuing to attack. I think just a little bit of fatigue started to set in when we went through those final minutes ... It's really good preparation for the conference games. It's good for our team to have to play Friday and possibly go to overtime and then have to turn around and play early on Sunday afternoon."

Key Moment

  • In the 77th minute, sophomore Marissa Grasso (Shelton, Conn.) played a corner kick into the penalty area, the Bulldogs' 10th of the match, where freshman Arin Smalls (Marlborough, Mass.) was able to be the first one to it. Her header towards goal was redirected by Bergh to the left of Bonaventure keeper Lauren Malcolm to give the Bulldogs the goal.

Scoring Summary

  • 77th minute – Bryant 1, St. Bonaventure 0 – After an afternoon full of opportunities from set pieces, Grasso's first corner of the game was perfectly placed to the head of Smalls and the play unraveled from there, finished by Bergh.
