Bulldogs can't overcome slow start in loss to Lowell

LOWELL, MASS. – Two first-half goals were the difference on Sunday afternoon, as the Bryant University women's soccer team dropped a non-conference match to UMass Lowell.

"Our slow start put us in a hole from the start of the game today. Our focus and energy picked up as we pushed to get back in the game and we played a solid second half, but we weren't able to find the goal we needed to really threaten their lead."

31 seconds into the match, the River Hawks scored the opening goal as Emily Nelson got in behind and fired a shot high over sophomore Meghan Dalton (West Hartford, Conn.) to give UMass Lowell all they would need.

• 1^st minute – UMass Lowell 1, Bryant 0 – Lily Fabian played a long ball over the back line that found the feet of Nelson, who was able to beat the charging Dalton to set up UMass Lowell with the lead.
• 33^rd minute – UMass Lowell 2, Bryant 0 – Rachel Morrier made a run in behind that forced Dalton to come off her line and the keeper undercut Morrier, resulting in a penalty kick. The grad student went to the spot and fired low and right to double the lead.
