Guilmette's goal stands up in shutout of LIU

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Redshirt-senior Alison Guilmette (Coventry, R.I.) scored on a free kick in the 17th minute and the Bulldog defense posted a clean sheet as the Bryant University women's soccer team closed the regular season with a 1-0 shutout of Long Island Sunday afternoon.

Bryant earned the No. 3 seed in next weekend's Northeast Conference tournament and advances to a Friday semifinal against Fairleigh Dickinson in New Britain, Connecticut.

17' – Bryant 1, Long Island 0 – Guilmette's free kick from 25 yards out sailed over the Shark defense and into the goal to put the Bulldogs in front for good.

Stats/Notes

  • Guilmette's goal was her second of the season and sixth of her career. The Rhode Islander has scored in back-to-back contests entering the NEC tournament.
  • Junior Amanda Spitaleri (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) recorded two of Bryant's four shot attempts.
  • Junior Meghan Dalton (West Hartford, Conn.) tallied four saves.
  • Bryant has won or tied its last 12 games and posted an unbeaten record in NEC play for the first time in program history.
