Salzano, Rice lead Bulldogs past Maine on Saturday night

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Nicole Salzano (Elmwood Park, N.J.) and sophomore Jillian Rice (Trumbull, Conn.) each won three events to lead the Bryant University women's swimming and diving team to a 143-119 victory over the University of Maine on Saturday night at the Chace Athletic Center Pool.

With the victory, the Bulldogs complete a weekend sweep and improves to 3-0 in dual meets this season.

Salzano won the 100 back with a time of 59.88, the 200 back with a time of 2:09.11 and the 500 free with a time of 5:19.08. Rice won the 50 free (24.54), the 100 free (53.15) and the 200 free (1:55.96).

The Bulldogs also received first-place finishes from Alyssa DiFiore (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Alaina Scifo (Ipswich, Great Britain). DiFiore won the 1000 free with a time of 10:52.63 and finished second in the 500 free (5:19.13). Scifo won the 200 IM (2:15.93) and finished second in the 100 back (1:00.27) and 200 back (2:10.89).

Bryant closed the meet with a come-from-behind victory in the 400 free relay. Salzano, Valeria Watson (Mexico City, Mexico), Domenica Alcala (Cancun, Mexico) and Rice combined to win the event with a time of 3:37.52. Rice anchored the relay with a 100 time of 52.31.

The Bulldogs return to the pool next Saturday (Oct. 29) when they travel to Iona for a 2:00 p.m. meet.
