Bryant freshmen sweep NEC weekly honors

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's swimming and diving team swept the Northeast Conference weekly honors that were announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Bryant's freshmen trio of Reetta Kanervo (Oulu, Finland), Kyri Chambo (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and Erin Doruska (Ankeny, Iowa) were named swimmer, diver and rookie of the week, respectively.

Kanervo posted the top NEC times of the year in the 50 free (23.86), 100 free (51.76) and 100 fly (56.47) against Wagner and Central Connecticut last weekend. She won all three events and helped Bryant win the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay on its way to a clean sweep of the relays.

Chambo won both diving events against the Seahawks and Blue Devils. She won the 1-meter with a score of 205.30 and the 3-meter with a score of 210.70.

Doruska earns another rookie of the week honor after posting the top time in the NEC in the 200 free (1:54.09) against Wagner and CCSU. She won the 200 free, finished second in the 100 free, third in the 50 free and helped the 400 free and 400 medley relay teams to victories.

In addition, Alaina Scifo (Ipswich, Great Britain) was named an NEC Prime Performer. She won both back events and helped the 400 medley and 400 free relay teams to victories.
