Army hands Bulldogs, 7-0, loss on Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Despite a hard-fought battle, the Bryant University women's tennis team fell to Army, 7-0, on Saturday at Rally Point.

Army (7-4) secured the doubles point to start the match, sweeping the Bulldogs (0-5), 6-4, 6-4, 6-1.

Senior Marion Bouillin (San Diego, Calif.) competed hard with Melanie Allen at No. 1 singles, forcing a tiebreaker in game two, where she was defeated, 8-6. After losing, 6-2, in the first game, Junior Nina Luiggi (Nottingham, England) forced a third, after beating Genevieve McCormick, 6-4, in game two. McCormick went on to seal the point for Army, defeating Luiggi, 10-4, in the third. Classmate Ashanti Campfield (Stratford, Conn.) played Allyson Hayley well, but ultimately fell, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

The Bulldogs now turn their attention to Stony Brook on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Brown University.
