Bulldogs beat Mount, 4-1, in NEC Quarterfinals

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's tennis team solidified its place in the Northeast Conference Semifinals after defeating Mount St. Mary's, 4-1, in the quarterfinals on Friday.

The Bulldogs (6-12, 4-1 NEC) opened with a sweep of the doubles points at No. 2 and 3, while No. 1 doubles went unfinished. The Bryant duo of Nina Luiggi (Nottingham, England) and Ashanti Campfield (Stratford, Conn.) took down Emma Blake and Erin Benefiel, 6-3, at two. Stefanie Arroyo (Gurabo, Puerto Rico) and Linnea Sjoberg (Stockholm, Sweden) teamed up against Hannah Davis and Kelly Smith to win, 6-2, at three.

The Mount (7-13, 1-4) scored its only point of the day at No. 1 singles, when Alexa Quintanilla topped Marion Bouillin (San Diego, Calif.), 6-3, 6-2. Bryant captured the three remaining points at No. 2, 3 and 5 singles, while four and six went unfinished.

Sjoberg defeated Sruthi Kamprath convincingly at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-2, while doubles partner Arroyo topped Davis, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 singles. Campfield continued her match winning streak, taking down Smith, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3 singles.

The Bulldogs will make their fourth-straight NEC Semifinal appearance tomorrow and will take on No. 3 Fairleigh Dickinson at 12:30 p.m.
