SMITHFIELD, RI - The Bryant University volleyball team struggled against one of the Northeast Conference's top teams in Long Island University, falling to the Blackbirds, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at the Chace Athletic Center.

The Bulldogs (13-13) couldn't muster much offense in the three-game match, led by a team-high eight kills from freshman Maria Scocca (Melrose, Mass.). Freshman Jazmin Stoner (Durango, Colo.) and junior Julie Geonnotti (St. Louis Park, Minn.) each recorded five kills on the day.

Bryant had a lead in the second set, but couldn't see it through to the end as LIU's (10-9) Svetlana Simic and Martina Racic paced the game with 15 and 12 kills, respectively.

Senior co-captain Maureen Atkins (Fenton, Mo.) and Geonnotti stepped up big in the setter role for the Bulldogs, registering 10 and eight assists, respectively. Senior co-captain Delia Glover (Marston Mills, Mass.) led the match with 20 digs.

The Bulldogs will take the court at the Chace Athletic Center again Tuesday, Oct. 21, when they host Providence College in the second of three-consecutive home bouts for Bryant. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
