BULLDOGS TOP HOLY CROSS, 3-0, IN FINAL MATCH OF HAMPTON INN INVITATIONAL

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman Claire Van Dyk (New Richmond, Wis.) posted a match-high 13 kills while all-tournament team selection Jadith Lorenzo (Lawrence, Mass.) dished out 37 assists and served up four aces to lead the Bryant University volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Holy Cross in the closing match of the 2012 Hampton Inn Invitational Saturday at the Chace Athletic Center.

The Bulldogs (5-9) won in straight sets with 25-17, 25-22 and 25-13 victories, posting a .429 team attack percentage in the clinching set behind seven kills and two blocks from junior Alexandria Clyburn (Cartersville, Ga.). She would finish the night with 10 kills, a .444 hitting percentage and a match-best seven stuffs (1 solo).

The Crusaders (0-13) were paced by 10 kills from Megan Lynch and eight more from Emily Oliver. The Bulldogs didn't allow a Holy Cross ace but doled out nine of their own and also outdug their opponents, 47-44. Senior Macy Mitravich (Waimanalo, Hawaii) led the stat sheet in the category with 16 and also recorded a pair of aces.

Senior Emily Kaup (Chandler, Ariz.) finished the day with five blocks and added seven kills in a strong outing as the team hit .270 on the contest with 15 total blocks. Bryant led through nearly the entire match, forfeiting the lead just once in three sets.

On the Hampton Inn Invitational, Van Dyk led the Bulldogs with 31 kills and a .324 attack percentage, serving up six aces on the tournament. Clyburn finished the weekend set with 19 kills and paced the team on the block with 15. Lorenzo's three-match weekend ended with 73 assists.

The Bulldogs next hit the floor Tuesday when they travel to the University of Hartford for a 6 p.m. matchup with the Hawks.
