DePouw named Molten/NEC Rookie of the Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman Sara DePouw (Oconto, Wis.) earned the first Northeast Conference weekly honor of her young career and volleyball's first in-season accolade of 2013, named the Molten/NEC Rookie of the Week for her performances over the 2-1 stretch.

DePouw was dominant at the net, leading the Bulldogs with 16 blocks (1 solo, 15 block assists) in a 2-1 week. The freshman posted match highs in all three outings, registering seven blocks against Robert Morris on Sunday afternoon, just one day after recording five (1 solo, 4 block assists) in a 3-2 win over Saint Francis U. DePouw also added four blocks in Bryant's 3-2 comeback win over Holy Cross on Tuesday night.

DePouw's net dominance was complimented by strong offensive numbers, as the rookie posted a career-high 15 kills against the Crusaders, with 11 more coming against the Colonials and six versus the Red Flash. DePouw hit a team-best .429 (32 kills) on the week as well, committing just five errors in 63 swings while chipping in a pair of aces, eight digs and averaging 3.27 points per set.

DePouw currently leads the Bulldogs in blocks (63tb, 6s) and attack percentage (.304) on the year and ranks second on the team in kills (192).
