Tuesday clash with Dartmouth up next for Bryant

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University volleyball team plays its final non-conference match of the regular season Tuesday when Dartmouth visits the Chace Athletic Center.

Series History vs. Dartmouth
Bryant is 3-3 all-time against Dartmouth and 2-1 in Smithfield. The Bulldogs and Big Green last played in 2016 with Dartmouth winning in four sets in Hanover. Kirstyn Sperry (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Julia Flynn (Pembroke, Mass.) posted double-doubles in the match. 

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant is 18-9 overall and 8-2 in the NEC, having won its last five matches. The Bulldogs extended the streak with a four-set victory over Central Connecticut Saturday.
  • Flynn recorded 20 kills in the win over the Blue Devils, which pulled the Bulldogs within one match of first-place LIU Brooklyn in the loss column with two NEC weekends remaining.
  • Senior Kristin Kingi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) posted her fourth consecutive double-double Saturday with 16 kills and 19 digs.
  • The Bryant freshman class has combined for 27 performances of 10 or more kills this season, including 19 from Caroline Kennedy (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.).
  • Bryant is 44-6 (.880) at the Chace Athletic Center since the start of 2015.
  • Head coach Theresa Garlacy won her 500th career match in the Sept. 8 sweep of Coppin State. Garlacy is now at 512 career wins entering the weekend.

A Bit About Dartmouth
The Big Green is 8-12 on the year and 4-6 in the Ivy League after a split of last weekend's Ivy League matches, falling to Cornell in four sets and sweeping Columbia. Dartmouth is 2-1 against mutual opponents with wins over Brown and St. Francis Brooklyn and a loss to Fordham. 

Nicole Liddle leads the Big Green with 2.60 kills per set, while Francesca Meldrum has added 1.91 on a team-high .324 hitting percentage. Meldrum (1.18 blocks per set) and Tola Akinwumi (1.21) have helped lead Dartmouth to an Ivy League-best 2.55 blocks per set this season.

Bryant will be on the road for the penultimate weekend of the NEC schedule with matches at Sacred Heart and Fairleigh Dickinson. The weekend begins in Fairfield when the Bulldogs and Pioneers square off Friday at 6 p.m.
