Bryant Sweeps Merrimack, Improves to 4-1 in NEC

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant women's volleyball team improved to 4-1 in NEC play with a 3-0 win over Merrimack. It was their seventh win in their last eight matches.

Coach Garlacy's Comments:

"It was a total team effort tonight. We stayed disciplined and played a clean match. We served aggressively and were extremely effective attacking."

 

Set 1: Bryant scored 11 of the first 13 points in the opening set and led from start to finish, winning by 13. Alysa Wright led Bryant with six kills in the set, while Mia Cergol had 13 assists. The Bulldogs had 17 kills against only two errors.

Set 2: Merrimack took the early lead in the second, only for Bryant to go on a 4-0 run to take the lead back. The Bulldogs stayed ahead for the rest of the set, winning by seven. Alysa Wright had five kills and Caroline Kennedy had four for Bryant in the set.

Set 3: Bryant pulled away immediately in the third, scoring the first three points and leading by nine before Merrimack called a timeout. The 18 point margin of victory was the largest for the Bulldogs in a set this season, and was punctuated by a 15-2 scoring run to end the match. Riley James had five kills and Claudia Borri had two aces for Bryant, who ended the set with 13 kills against no errors.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant's .460 team attack percentage was their highest in a match this season and their third highest in the team's Division I era.

  • Alysa Wright led Bryant with 15 kills against one error in 24 attempts. Her .583 attack percentage puts her in the top ten for a single match in Bryant's history.

  • Bryant had nine aces in the match, their third most this season. Abby Rae and Claudia Borri had three each.

  • Four Bulldogs had at least seven kills in the match. In addition to Wright, Riley James had eight, and Haley O'Brien and Caroline Kennedy each had seven.
