Young Guns Power Bulldogs in Sweep of Hartford

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant women's volleyball team used some home cooking in their return to the Chace, sweeping Hartford 3-0. Miranda Jantzen led the Bulldogs with a career-high seven kills, while London Hunt had five kills and a team-high four blocks. The Bulldogs have now won four of their last five matches, with just one remaining before conference play.

Coach Garlacy's Comments: "It was a breakout night for Miranda, leading us in kills. Melis also had a great night running the offense, and London also had an aggressive night."

How it Happened

Set 1: Both teams traded points early, with the set tied at six before Bryant used a 7-2 run to pull out a five-point lead. Another 6-0 run later in the set helped seal the deal for the Bulldogs, who went on to win by a comfortable seven-point margin. London Hunt and Aubrey Lapour had three kills each in the set.

Set 2: Hartford scored the first point of the set, but Bryant responded with three consecutive points to take the lead. A pair of Gianna Grigaliunas aces would help fuel an 8-1 Bulldog run that put them ahead by eight as they went on to win the set by 14. The Bulldogs had five total aces in the set, with Emma McGovern, Mia Cergol, and Riley James adding to the two by Grigaliunas.

Set 3: The third set was the most competitive, with eight ties and seven lead changes between the two teams. The Hawks briefly took a 12-11 lead before consecutive kills by Hunt and Fabi Castro put the Bulldogs ahead for good. Hartford would be able to keep the score close until a 5-1 run by Bryant sealed the set and the match. Miranda Jantzen had five of her seven kills in the set, including the final point of the match.
