McGovern, Tellier receive All-NEC honors Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's and women's cross country teams hosted all 10 Northeast Conference teams on Saturday morning for the NEC Cross Country Championship.

The men's squad placed 5th overall led by Noah Tellier (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Matt McGovern (Long Beach, N.Y.) who were honored for cracking the top 14 by receiving All-NEC honors. The women finished 9th led by freshman Julia Ayres (Collegeville, Pa.) in her NEC Championhship debut.

MEET NOTES

  • Breann Campise (Tolland, Conn.) finished this year's NEC Championship with the same exact time as last year. This year Campise jumped up 11 spots as she finished 60th last season.
  • Ellie Goyette (Lowell, Mass.) improved her time from last season by 36 seconds and moved up 10 placed from her 77th place finish a year ago.
  • The men's team finished in the same spot last year with one point difference.
  • Tellier improved his time by about one minute and 15 seconds from last seasons Championship and improved his ranking by cracking the top 14 this season.
  • McGovern also ran a faster race this season despite the conditions. The senior was also able to crack the top 14 and improved his time by 50 seconds.
  • Despite finishing a few spots back, Robert McCabe (Marlborough, Mass.) also improved his championship time by 20 seconds as compared to a year ago along with Chris Wrenn (Norton, Mass.) who ran the race the race 59 seconds faster.

The Bulldogs will travel to Buffalo, N.Y. on November 9 for the NCAA Northeast Regionals.
