Bulldogs travel to CCSU for Ted Owens Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's and women's cross country teams are back in action this weekend after taking two weeks off after the Nassaney Invitational. The Bulldogs are set to compete in the Ted Owens Invitational hosted by Central Connecticut.

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • The Bulldogs last competed in their season opener at home in the Nassaney Invitational. The men finished sixth overall out of 11 teams while the women finished seventh out of eight.
  • Freshman Jess Cook (Liverpool, England) led the women's squad with a time of 20:00.0. Cook finished the race in the 57th spot.
  • For the second year in a row, sophomore Jason Dolan (Westford, Mass.) led the men as he came in at 21 with a time of 26:08.7
  • Freshman Jonathan Iamarone (Providence, R.I.) earned Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week honors for his performance at Nassaney. Iamarone finished with a time of 26:17.8 in the 31st place. The rookie posted the exact same time as junior captain Jordan Dagrin (North Kingstown, R.I.) who finished 30th and improved his time by almost two minutes from last season's Nassaney Invitational.
  • Julia Ayres (Collegeville, Pa.)Caroline Meizen (Douglas, Mass.), and Ellie Goyette (Lowell, Mass.) all improved their times from last season. On the men's side, Harrison McKinlay (Sutton, Mass.), William Bittrich (Duxbury, Mass.), and Benjamin Carlson (Middletown, Conn.) also improved their times from a year ago.
  • Apart from 2015, Bryant has competed in the Ted Owens Invitational every season since 2013
  • Last season at Ted Owens, the men posted their best team finish by compiling 67 points for a third-place mark. The women finished eighth in 2018 with a score of 209.
  • Saturday marks the first of three meets that Bryant will compete in at Central Connecticut. CCSU is set to host the NEC Championship this year on Nov. 2.
