Bryant mourns passing of Hall of Famer Dan Mazzulla

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Bryant University Athletics and the entire Bryant University community are saddened by the loss of Dan Mazzulla '84 on April 22.

Mazzulla played four seasons with the Bryant University men's basketball team and was inducted into the Bryant Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007. A Johnston, R.I., native, Mazzulla went on to become the Johnston Parks and Recreation Director and coached both boys and girls basketball.

One of the most prolific scorers in Bulldog history, Mazzulla led the Bulldogs to a pair of 20-win seasons and the school's first two NCAA tournament appearances. Mazzulla ranked 10th in career scoring with 1,390 career points and fourth in career rebounding with 761 at the time of his hall of fame induction. He also holds the Bulldog single-season record with a .913 free throw percentage. Mazzulla played on two state championship teams at Johnston High School. After his stellar career at Bryant, Mazzulla played professionally in Chile.

Below is a statement from Director of Athletics Bill Smith:

"Bryant Athletics and the entire Bryant community are saddened by the passing of Dan Mazzulla. Dan was a Hall-of-Famer in every sense of the word. He was an outstanding student-athlete during his time at Bryant and has continued to be a champion for the Rhode Island community, specifically his hometown of Johnston. He will be missed and our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and his three children."
