Full NEC Release | NEC FAQs

Dear Student-Athletes, Parents and Staff -

I am reaching out to inform you that earlier today, the Northeast Conference Council of Presidents voted to postpone all fall sports athletics competitions and championships. This postponement applies to NEC sponsored sports and impacts men's and women's cross country, field hockey, football, men's and women's soccer and women's volleyball, as well as all other NEC sports scheduled to engage in competition this fall. The council did agree to reconvene again by October 1 to evaluate the public health crisis and competitive options moving forward.

I met with our coaches and student-athletes on Monday, July 27 to present what the fall and spring sport seasons could look like if the postponement of fall sports was approved by the NEC Council of Presidents. So certainly, today's decision did not come as a surprise. However, we regret that this is so hard on our student-athletes and we will now focus our attention on supporting them in the upcoming year.

Our top priority is the safe re-opening of Bryant University for all of our students, faculty and staff. Life on campus this semester is going to require new expectations and new behaviors from all of us, but we believe with everyone working together, we can achieve and maintain a safe return. We look forward to seeing our student-athletes return to campus and begin training and conditioning for the sport they love.

I hope you and your families are safe and well during this unprecedented global health crisis, and on behalf of our entire Athletic Department, thank you for your patience and perseverance during these challenging times.

Sincerely,

Bill Smith
Director of Athletics
