SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Bryant University Baseball staff is pleased to announce its annual October Scout Day, to be held on the campus of Bryant University on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009. This one-day event will take place at the Bryant Baseball Complex in Smithfield, R.I. and will begin with registration from 8-8:30 a.m. The event will start at 8:45 a.m.

When Plainville's David Soltis officially joins the Bryant University baseball team, he'll be joining another local star in former Berlin High pitcher Matt Griswold. Griswold went 1-1 with a 3.48 ERA in 16 appearances as a sophomore for the Bulldogs last year. "The easiest thing about coming back as a sophomore is you're more familiar with everything," Griswold said. "Freshman year you don't know what to expect. I feel like it's easier to work harder. I felt a lot more comfortable."

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Headlined by junior hurler Eric Polvani (Wallingford, Conn.), the Bryant University baseball team continues to scoop up postseason accolades after just one season of Division I play, placing a pair on the ABCA All-Northeast Region teams, as announced Sunday. He is joined by Northeast Region Second Team selection Jeff Vigurs (South Windor, Conn.).

SMITHFIELD, RI – Bryant University baseball senior shortstop Pat McKenna (Orange, CT) was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 27th round (810th overall) during Wednesday’s Major League Baseball draft. He becomes the first Bryant baseball player drafted since Doug Johnson was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the fifth round (142nd overall) in the 2002 draft.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Bryant University junior Eric Polvani (Wallingford, Conn.) threw two no-hit innings and was named Pitcher of the Game as he led the University Team to an 11-0 shutout of the College Team in the 35th Annual New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-Star Game Thursday night at Campanelli Stadium.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University baseball team had six players earn Division I All-Independent honors, including starting pitcher Eric Polvani, who was named All-Independent Pitcher of the Year while also being placed on the All-Independent first team as announced Wednesday. Joining Polvani on the first team were catcher Jeff Vigurs and relief pitcher Mark Andrews, while shortstop Pat McKenna, outfielder Nick Campbell and starting pitcher Kevin Cobb were all named to the second team.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University starting pitcher Eric Polvani earned first team All-New England honors while junior catcher Jeff Vigurs, junior outfielder Nick Campbell and senior starting pitcher Kevin Cobb were all selected to the second team as announced Thursday by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association. The four Bulldogs will all be eligible to participate in the 2009 NEIBA All-Star game on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, Mass.

Nick Campbell of Raynham needed only three seasons to break the Bryant University record for hits in a baseball career. By the time the former Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High standout plays his final game next spring, Campbell should own a few more of the Bulldogs’ marks.

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- After years of success at the Division II level, the Bryant University baseball team had to rise up to the challenge of Division I competition in 2009, and rise up they did to the tune of 32 wins, with an incredible 30 coming against DI teams. One of the most successful seasons of any Division I reclassifying team, head coach Jamie Pinzino led the squad to a record of 32-22 with a .593 winnings percentage, second behind Florida Gulf Coast for tops among reclassifying teams.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University baseball finished its inaugural Division I season ranked fifth overall in New England according to the final NEIBA Coaches poll released on Tuesday. The Bulldogs were 32-22 on the year and went 12-7 against New England Division I competition and 14-7 overall against New England teams.

HANOVER, N.H. – The Bryant University baseball team ended their 2009 season on Wednesday, falling to Ivy League Champions, Dartmouth, 7-4 in Hanover, N.H. Bryant finished its inaugural Division I season 32-22 overall, and 13-6 against New England DI competition.

BURLINGTON, VT – Pat O’Connor went two-for-four with four RBI as the Bryant baseball team exploded for 10 runs on 12 hits to take down Vermont, 10-3, in game one of a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Bulldogs also took the night cap, 4-3, to win their fifth-straight game. Bryant improved to 32-21 with the sweep and 12-4 against New England Division I teams.

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant University baseball team will finish off what has been a very successful inaugural Division I season, as they take their 29-21 record into the final four games. The Bulldogs will host Northeastern on Monday in their final home game of the 2009 season, before heading to Vermont for a doubleheader on Tuesday, and Dartmouth for their season finale Wednesday.
