Klosterman welcomes 16 to 20-21 roster

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University baseball head coach Ryan Klosterman announced the addition of 16 student-athletes for the start of the 2020-21 academic year.

Klosterman's first recruiting class includes 10 freshmen and six transfers. Bryant will also welcome back three seniors from the Class of 2020, James Ciliento, Jack Ipsen and Vito Morgese.

"We are really excited about our first recruiting class as a staff and I cannot thank Coach Pelletier and Coach Hurvul enough for their overall commitment and hard work to improve our roster," Klosterman said. "The freshmen class has a great mix of athleticism and upside which will be fun to see develop over the next few months. In addition, the group of transfers will provide experience in the areas that we needed it the most in order to achieve our lofty goals this spring."

Incoming Transfers

Liam McGill
Position: Catcher
Previous School: Columbia

McGill, a 6-4, 225-pound catcher from Wakefield, R.I., joins the Bulldogs as a grad transfer from Columbia. McGill was a three-time All-Ivy selection, posting 164 hits in 136 games with the Lions. He finished his Columbia career with 30 doubles, 14 home runs and 83 RBI. McGill was a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American in 2017.

JP Knight
Position: Infield
Previous School: Tufts

Knight joins the Bulldogs as a grad transfer from Tufts University. A Second Team All-NESCAC selection in 2019, Knight hit .285 with three home runs and 34 RBI in his career with the Jumbos.

Logan Allen
Position: Infield
Previous School: Bridgeport

Allen joins the Bulldogs after three years at the University of Bridgeport. A native of Magnolia, Texas, Allen was hitting .390 with a .500 OBP and eight stolen bases prior to the 2020 season coming to a close. Allen hit .336 with 35 runs scored and was 19-of-22 in stolen base attempts as a freshman in 2018.

Logan Frasier
Position: Pitcher
Previous School: State College of Florida

Frasier comes to Smithfield after spending two years at the State College of Florida. He went 2-1 with 30 strikeouts in 33 innings as freshman in 2019 but missed the 2020 season due to injury. Frasier was nominated for the Bill Tuten Award, which is give to the best student-athlete in Florida JUCO baseball.

Michael Stellato
Position: Infield
Previous School: Northern Essex CC

Stellato comes to Bryant after two years at Northern Essex. He was a two-time NJCAA Academic All-American during his time there. Stellato hit .306 with two doubles, two triples and three home runs in 23 games as a freshman in 2019.

Christian Allegretti
Position: Pitcher
Previous School: St. Thomas Aquinas

Allegretti joins the Bulldogs after spending three years at Division II St. Thomas Aquinas. He appeared in 39 games during his career, going 3-3. Allegretti made 21 appearances in 2019, going 2-3 with a save and 28 strikeouts in 32.2 innings.

Lewis Barnum – Infield | 5-11 | 185 | San Diego, Calif. | Cathedral Catholic

Barnum is the first recruit in Bryant DI program history from the state of California. He was hitting .375 with six doubles prior to the 2020 season cut short. Barnum was ranked one of the top 20 infielders in San Diego for the 2020 season.

Ryan Bradley – Pitcher | 5-10 | 180 | Peabody, Mass. | St. John's Prep

Bradley starred in baseball and hockey at St. John's Prep. A teammate of Alex Lane in 2019, Bradley went 3-1 with a 0.69 ERA.

John Carney – Pitcher | 6-4 | 200 | Mansfield, Mass. | Mansfield

Carney helped Mansfield High win 18+ games as a sophomore and a junior, earning First Team All-Hockomock and Sun Chronicle All-Star honors as a junior. He was 3-0 with a 0.51 ERA as a sophomore and went 5-3 with a 1.66 ERA and 55 strikeouts as a junior. Carney was named to the 2020 Massachusetts Preseason All-American team.

Stan DeMartinis III – Infield/Catcher | 5-11 | 180 | Boca Raton, Fla. | American Heritage

DeMartinis played for one of the nation's best high school programs at American Heritage. The team was ranked as high as No. 4 in the country. DeMartinis helped them win 88 games during his career, finishing with a .323 career average. He was a two-time First Team All-3A selection and a 2019 PBR Second Team All-Florida selection.

Alvaro Espinal – Outfield | 5-10 | 185 | Attleboro, Mass. | Attleboro

Espinal makes the short trip to Smithfield from his hometown of Attleboro. He was a two-time Sun Chronicle All-Star and a two-time Perfect Game Preseason All-American. Espinal played in the Newport Collegiate Baseball League in the summer of 2020.

James Myler – Outfield | 6-3 | 190 | Middle Island, N.Y. | Longwood

Myler had a standout career at Longwood High, helping his team win 18 games in both 2018 and 2019. He hit .367 with a .432 OBP as a junior, collecting four doubles, three triples and five home runs. Myler was named one of the top 100 players by Newsday and was a Perfect Game Preseason All-American in 2020.

Damaurys Rodriguez – Catcher | 5-9 | 178 | Sinking Spring, Pa. | Wilson

A switch-hitter, Rodriguez was ranked in the top 500 nationally by Perfect Game. He helped Wilson win two Berks County titles and was a two-time all-league selection. Rodriguez hit .312 in his career with 13 doubles, 34 RBI and 50 runs scored.

Mark Scamardella – Pitcher | 6-1 | 200 | Staten Island, N.Y. | Xaverian

Scamardella pitched and hit for Xaverian, hitting .320 as a junior. He was named team MVP in 2018 and was the Iron Clipper Award winner in 2020.

Austin Wainer – Pitcher | 5-10 | 160 | Johns Creek, Ga. | Johns Creek

Wainer becomes the first Bryant recruit from the state of Georgia. He was part of a 2020 travel ball team that won the 17U National Team Championships in Cary, North Carolina.

Brett Wichrowski – Pitcher | 6-2 | 177 | Williamstown, N.J. | Williamstown

Wichrowski was a two-time all-league selection at Williamstown High. He went 3-0 as a junior.
