Lowe dazzles as Bryant takes opener, 11-2

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Collin Lowe allowed just one hit and struck out 10 over 6.0 scoreless innings as the Bryant University baseball team opened the weekend with a 11-2 victory over Sacred Heart at Conaty Park.

Lowe was perfect through 5.1 innings and finished his afternoon with a career-high-tying 10 strikeouts. He allowed just one hit and didn't walk a batter.

Bryant's offense provided plenty of run support, breaking open the game early with a six-run third. John Tuccillo, Carmine Petosa and Matt Woods all posted two hits, while Alex Lane hit his league-leading 11th home run and drove in four.

Key Moment

  • Bryant added single runs in the first two innings but Lane made it a crooked number in the third with an opposite field three-run home run. It would lead to a six-run third inning for the Bulldogs.                          

How it Happened

  • Bryant jumped ahead in the first as Lane scored Jake Gustin with a sac fly to right.
  • In the second, Petosa singled, DiTullio doubled and Matt Smith drove in a run wit a ground out.
  • Bryant then opened the game up with a six-run third. Tuccillo and Gustin both reached and Lane lofted a high fly ball to right that got caught in the wind and carried over the wall for a three-run home run. The Bulldogs would add three more runs, scoring on a balk, a single from Petosa and a double from Woods.
  • Logan Allen's RBI ground out scored Tuccillo (reached on an error) in the fourth.
  • Bryant pushed its lead to 10-0 with a sac fly from Tuccillo in the sixth.

  • Bryant improved to 5-2 on its current nine-game homestand.
  • The Bulldogs are now 32-17 against the Pioneers.
  • Lowe allowed one hit over 6.0 scoreless innings. He had a perfect game through 5.1 innings.
  • Lowe also struck out a career-high-tying 10 batters.
  • Jackson Harrigan earned the save with 3.0 innings of two-run relief. He allowed five hits, walked one and struck out four. 
  • Lowe and Harrigan combined to strikeout 14. 
  • Woods posted his team-leading 15th multi-hit game of the year, going 2-for-4.
  • Woods now leads the team with 14 doubles on the year.  
  • Woods is now 17-for-26 over his last five games.
  • Lane hit his 11th home run of the year and drove in four. He now has 38 RBI.
  • Lane's 11 home runs lead the NEC and are tied for the fourth-most in a single season in DI program history.
  • Tuccillo and Petosa each added two hits.
  • Gustin went 1-for-3 with three runs scored.
  • Tuccillo extended his on-base streak to 18 games.
  • DiTullio extended his on-base streak to 15 games.
