How it Happened

  • Bryant grabbed the lead in the first as Woods was hit by a pitch and scored on a two-out double to right center from Lane.
  • The Pioneers took the lead with unearned runs in the second and third. In the third, an errant pickoff throw at first allowed the Pioneer runner to round the bases and score to make it 2-1 in the third.
  • Bryant quickly answered, plating two in the bottom half. Woods was hit by a pitch and Gustin singled to put runners on the corners. John Tuccillo tied the game with a sac fly to center. Lane then followed off several two-strike pitches before doubling over the left fielders head to make it 3-2.
  • The Black and Gold then scored four times in the fifth to create some breathing room. Gustin walked with two outs to start the rally and back-to-back hit batters loaded the bases. Allen then hit a soft ground ball between third and short that was fielded by the Pioneer shortstop. The throw to first was wide, allowing a second run to score. Smith followed with a two-run single up the middle to make it 7-2.
  • Allen made it 8-2 with a sac fly in the seventh.
  • The Bulldogs put the game away with four runs in the eighth. Gustin delivered an RBI single to start the scoring and a pair of wild pitches added two more. Lane closed the scoring with an RBI infield single.
