Bryant welcomes No. 16 UConn to Conaty Park on Tuesday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University baseball team plays its final non-conference game of the regular season on Tuesday afternoon when it welcomes No. 16 UConn to Conaty Park. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.

UConn's visit to Smithfield will mark the highest-ranked opponent the Bulldogs have faced at home in DI program history.

Bryant vs. UConn

  • Bryant and UConn are meeting for the second time this season. The Huskies, ranked No. 25 at the time, earned a 9-1 win at Elliot Ballpark on March 23.
  • The Huskies now own a 9-4-1 lead in the all-time series between the two programs. 
  • Bryant has hosted a ranked UConn team before, beating the 25th-ranked Huskies, 9-3, in 2017.   

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant is 25-23 overall following a weekend sweep of Northeast Conference rival Central Connecticut. The Bulldogs trailed in the seventh inning or later in two of the three wins.   
  • The Bulldogs trailed 4-3 entering the bottom of the eighth on Friday but hit back-to-back homers to win 6-4. On Sunday, they trailed 6-2 entering the bottom of the seventh but scored five times, with Jackon Phinney's grand slam giving the Black and Gold a 7-6 lead. 
  • Phinney had a big weekend for the Black and Gold, hitting three home runs and driving in seven in the three-game series. He hit two home runs in Sunday's finale. 
  • Shane Kelly also had a strong weekend, driving in six runs in the three-game set. Since returning to the lineup against LIU, Kelly is 8-for-16 with two home runs and nine RBI in six games.
  • Matt Woods continues to have an incredible year, entering the final week of the regular season hitting .397 with 17 doubles, five triples, seven home runs, 37 RBI and 37 runs scored. He has 71 hits on the year.
  • Alex Lane enters the final week of the regular season with 12 home runs and 47 RBI. Lane is just one home run shy of tying Ryan Ward for the DI single-season program record. 
  • Bryant's relievers shined in the series sweep of CCSU, allowing just two runs (one earned) over 12.0 innings.
