Woods and Lane earn ABCA All-Region honors

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Senior Matt Woods and sophomore Alex Lane of the Bryant University baseball team were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Northeast Region teams on Wednesday. 

Woods was named to the first team, while Lane earned second team honors. The duo become the 20th and 21st Bulldogs to earn ABCA All-Region honors at the Division I level. ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-America Teams will be announced the morning of Friday, June 17 prior to the start of the 2022 NCAA Div. I College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.

The 2022 Northeast Conference Player of the Year, Woods is one of three outfielders chosen to the first team. Woods enjoyed a breakout season this spring, hitting .384 with 17 doubles, seven triples, eight home runs, 45 RBI and 43 runs scored. He set career-highs in every category except runs scored, finishing his season with the fourth-most hits in a single season in DI program history (84), the sixth-best average (.384), the seventh-most doubles (17), second-most triples (7) and the fourth-most total bases (139). Woods also stole nine bases and didn't commit an error in 115 chances in center. 

Lane enjoyed a big offensive season at the plate, posting 14 doubles, 12 home runs and 48 RBI. His 12 home runs are tied for the second-most in a single season in DI program history, while his 48 RBI are a career high. Lane was second on the team in extra-base hits (26) and total bases (106).
