CALLING ALL DANCERS: COLLEGE DANCE PREPARATION WORKSHOP

SMITHFIELD, RI – The Bryant University Dance team will be holding an audition preparation workshop for students in grades 9-12 who are interested in learning everything you need to know to be successful in a college dance team audition. This workshop will be taking place Sunday, May 5th from 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM in the Main Gym at Bryant University.

The members of the Dance team will focus on teaching new performance choreography, as well as hip hop tricks and dance team styles such as ‘pom’. The workshop will also cover game-day sideline routines and how to engage with the crowd at events. There is also a portion of the workshop dedicated to technique with turns, turn sequences, and leaps.

Participants can benefit from a Q & A session with Dance team members and tips and tricks to make the most out of your college dance team audition. Lunch with the Dance team will be included in the dining hall, which is accommodating to food allergies, as well as a t-shirt and a code to waive the application fee when applying to Bryant University!

The itinerary for the event is as follows:

  • 8:30-9 Registration  

  • 9-9:30 Stretch, introductions, some talk about why they wanted to join a college dance    team

  • 9:45– 10:30 Skill work

    • Turns

    • Introduction to ‘Pom’

    • Hip Hop Tricks

  • 10:30-11 Q&A / Tips & Tricks

    • Talk about attire/appearance tips

    • Performance/Showmanship

    • Getting in contact early

  • 11-12:30 Choreography

    • Learning Sidelines

      • Spirit! Learn to work a crowd

    • Learning a Routine (45 seconds)

  • 12:30-1 Cool Down Stretch / More Questions

  • 1 – 2 Lunch in Dining Hall with Team

For those who plan on attending, please wear black workout or dance attire (leggings & a fitted tank/tee, no need for tights/leo) and your hair pulled back. Some prior experience with studio training is preferred, but not required. The registration will ask for the participant’s name, age, email, phone number, payment, hometown, year in school, dance background experience, and whether or not they plan on applying to Bryant University.
