CHEER SUMS UP YEAR AFTER SPRING SEASON CANCELLATION

CHEER SUMS UP YEAR AFTER SPRING SEASON CANCELLATION

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- All club sports were canceled for the remainder of the 2020 Spring semester due to COVID-19 after Bryant University’s Spring break in March. We asked members of our club sports to sum up some of the best, worst, and cherished times together. Read below to learn more about Cheer and how they summed up their year.

  • What was the best competition you participated in and why?

Although we were not able to compete in this year’s college nationals in Daytona, FL due to the virus, this would have been the best competition for us. The team has worked extremely hard all season for this one competition, and although it got canceled, we were able to come together as a team and reflect on the positive moments and memories we shared together this season.

  • What was a good general memory or highlight from this year?

A highlight this year was team bonding. We had over 10 freshmen on the team this year, so from the start, we welcomed them in. Getting to travel to Pennsylvania for the Men’s basketball playoff game and the women’s basketball game in New Jersey created an excellent team bonding experience for all of us.

  • What was a fun bonding experience your team did?

During preseason we always had team dinners every night. Towards the end of the season, we held a team bonding event where we watched Bryant Cheer’s previous season performances at NCA Nationals in Daytona, FL to get us motivated for this year’s event. We as a team all came together which made us even more determined to work hard and earn back our title. We unfortunately never got the chance to perform our routine due to the current pandemic, but we as a team really bonded.

  • What will your team miss the most about this year?

Our team will miss practicing and performing the most. This team has a strong cheer background and most of us have been cheering all our lives. Not being able to compete at one of the best competitions nationwide is devastating for all of us athletes considering we have worked so hard for that one moment. This will only make us stronger and even more determined for next season.

  • What the team looks forward to next year?

We look forward to returning to campus as a team and being able to practice again. We can’t wait to begin preparing for 2021 College Nationals.
