BULLDOGS OVERCOME OBSTACLES LEFT AND RIGHT

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- On Sunday, March 24th the Bulldogs hosted their first home tournament of the season.  It was a hectic afternoon because Boston University pulled out of the tournament last minute and their replacement, SHNU, did not end up coming either.  In addition, the tournament was run differently because UCONN arrived with only one woman and three men. The Bulldogs decided to adjust the tournament to a double elimination singles tournament with eight Bulldog players and four UCONN players.

Although it was a bit disappointing due to the lack of players and teams, the Bulldogs kept their heads high and played their hearts out!

Final Score:

  • Freshman Bulldog Ben Rathe competed in the men’s final against Jordan (UCONN) losing 0-6.

Highlights:

Men’s:

  • UCONN player, Jordan won the singles tournament

Women’s:

  • Emily Ren competed against the UCONN player in the finals losing 2-6

Comments:

  • “The match to watch was with the UCONN player vs. Bryant’s Maddie McLaughlin (‘20). The match went on for quite a while and Maddie was hitting hard shots, making her opponent run across the court.  She also placed her serves strategically which proved to be successful.” -Constance Tang

  • The Bulldogs are off to Nationals and are excited to take on the competition!
