ULTIMATE SUMS UP YEAR AFTER SPRING SEASON CANCELLATION

ULTIMATE SUMS UP YEAR AFTER SPRING SEASON CANCELLATION

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- All club sports were canceled for the remainder of the 2020 Spring semester due to COVID-19 after Bryant University’s Spring break in March. We asked members of our club sports to sum up some of the best, worst, and cherished times together. Read below to learn more about Ultimate Frisbee and how they summed up their year.

  • What was the best competition/tournament you participated in and why?

Lobster Pot in Portland, Maine was the best competition we participated in this year. It was the only real chance we had to play as a competitive team. We played against and held our own with some of the best division I teams in the country the entire weekend.

  • What was the worst competition/tournament you participated in and why?

Playing our rescheduled home tournament in November. It was incredibly cold outside, and motivation was low having to play so late in the year when our competitive season was already over.

  • What was a good general memory or highlight from this year?

All of our work in the strength and conditioning center. We had a lot of freshmen on the team this year and they all bought in right away and worked very hard during our lifts. We worked harder than in years past and were in great shape for the games we did get to play.

  • What was a successful/fun non-competitive event you were a part of?

Over Columbus Day Weekend, the members of our team volunteered at the Bryant women’s soccer game. We helped set up, worked as ball boys during the game and put away the equipment after the game to fill in for the normal workers who were off-campus for the long weekend.

  • What was a fun bonding experience your team did?

At the end of the fall season, we all went to Coach Bishop’s house for a barbeque and to play disc golf on his home-made course through the woods. After disc golf, we play games and have other competitions like speed-pool (billiards).

  • What will your team miss the most about this year?

Getting a chance to play in the postseason and make another run at a national championship. We had a very strong team this year and we excited to go to Ohio and try to win a title. We were also scheduled to play two tournaments at Bryant and it’s always fun to play in front of our family and friends.
