Bryant football opens spring season Sunday at LIU

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University football team opens its 2021 season on Sunday afternoon against Long Island University.

Bryant and LIU will kick off the abbreviated spring season at 1:00 p.m. The game will be streamed free-of-charge on NECFrontRow.com

Bryant on Offense

The Bulldogs return a strong core of their offense from a season ago. Leading the way will be the trio of Kory Curtis, Daniel Adeboboye and Anthony Frederick. The trio led the Bulldogs in passing, rushing and receiving in 2019.

Curtis emerged as the starter down the stretch of 2019, throwing for 1,700 yards and seven touchdowns. Adeboboye had a strong season in the backfield, rushing for 605 yards and five scores. Frederick was a standout as a freshman, catching 32 passes for 451 yards and a touchdown.

Bryant will also welcome back veteran wideout Alex Rasmussen who missed the final 11 games of the 2019 season with a knee injury. Joining him at the skill spots will be Charlotte transfer Ishod Finger, a 5-5 bolt of lightning out of the backfield.

Bryant on Defense

Bryant will have to deal with the loss of all-time leading tackler Jesse Nemerowicz, all-time sacks leader Tomas Wright and defensive leader Robert Brown this spring.

Back to lead the way will be a veteran secondary led by Andre Brackett and David Onyemem. Brackett is one of the best athletes in the Northeast Conference, posting 119 career tackles and five interceptions. Onyemem had his best season in 2019, finishing with 58 tackles and two interceptions.

Bryant will also lean on the strong presence up front from Jack Daly and Andrew Wallace. Both came on down the stretch in 2019 and have the chance to enjoy breakout seasons this spring.

Bryant on Special Teams

Brackett gives the Black and Gold one of the best returners in the conference, while Luke Samperi returns as one of the league's premier kickers. Samperi earned All-NEC honors after hitting 11-of-14 field goals in 2019. He's 12-of-16 in his career and will handle both kickoff and field goal duties.
