Bryant downs Wagner, 27-7, on Sunday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Making his first-career start, true freshman Ryan Clark threw for 154 yards and added a 22-yard touchdown run to lead the Bryant University football team to a 27-7 victory over Wagner on Sunday afternoon at Beirne Stadium.

Clark was one of four Bulldogs to rush for a touchdown on the afternoon, joining classmate Kyle Cichanowsky, sophomore Shai Young and junior Daniel Adeboboye. Bryant finished the day with 295 yards of total offense.

Bryant's defense shined for the second-straight week, limiting Wagner to just 195 yards of total offense. Derrius Perryman and Ricardo Martinez each posted interceptions, while Jack Daly had 1.5 sacks in the win.

Key Moment

  • Bryant took advantage of a muffed punt, starting inside the Wagner 20. Young capped the abbreviated drive with a three-yard TD run.

How it Happened

  • Andrew Wallace was able to recover the muffed punt inside the Wagner 20. Six plays later, Young punched it into the endzone to make it 7-0.
  • Bryant used a 51-yard completion from Clark to Alex Rasmussen to setup its next touchdown. Cichanowsky was able to find his way into the endzone from four yards out.
  • It remained 14-0 until the fourth quarter. Clark capped Bryant's scoring drive with a 22-yard touchdown run on 4th-and-6.
  • After Wagner scored its only touchdown of the day, the Bulldogs answered with a nine-play, 70-yard scoring drive. Young picked up a big 38-yard gain on the ground to put Bryant at the Wagner 18 and Adeboboye punched it in five plays later.

Game Notes

  • Bryant held an opponent to seven points or less in consecutive games for the first time since 2008 when they beat Iona (23-7) and Saint Francis U (23-0) to end the season.
  • Clark became the first true freshman to start at quarterback since Charlie Granatell in 2004.
  • Perryman and Martinez both posted their first-career interceptions.
